What’s it about?
Viago, Vlad, Deacon and Peter are four guys sharing a flat in a small town in New Zealand, and the inevitable drama, gags and chaos that comes part and parcel with living together. Oh, and they’re all bloodsucking, sunlight-hating vampires.
Why watch it?
What Taika Waititi cooks up for us in this hilarious mockumentary is a tiny slice from the lives of a few individuals who are just as human in emotion and routine as the rest of us. The camera follows this slightly sinister ol’ gang as they cope with changes to the dynamics of their small group with the introduction of new people, which threaten to disturb their equation with humans and other creatures. With dollops of deadpan and delicious dark humour, What We Do in the Shadows is easily the best satire on vampires yet. Seriously, it will have you rolling on the floor in no time.
Who made it?
Written-directed by Taika Waititi (Hunt for the Wilderpeople, and upcoming Thor: Ragnarok) and Jemaine Clement, starring Taika Waititi, Jemaine Clement, Jonathan Brugh and Rhys Darby.
What’s the best part?
The situational comedy.
